The challenge
PayCentre needed to roll out consistent updates while maintaining a comprehensive payment ecosystem that worked flawlessly across every platform. A single bug could mean failed transactions, lost revenue for agents, and eroded trust. The ecosystem spanned:
- Hardware integration with traditional, hybrid and Android POS devices
- Cross-platform consistency across mobile applications
- Web-admin dashboards
- Third-party API integrations — bank switches, utility billers, and payment processors
- Distributed system reliability across a microservices architecture
How TBD came in
End-to-end transaction testing
Complete payment flows from tap-to-pay through settlement, plus reversals, refunds, reconciliation, mid-transaction network failures, and edge cases like duplicate and concurrent transactions.
Platform-specific testing
Native Android POS hardware (card readers, receipt printers, PIN pads), offline transaction queuing, battery and memory profiling; mobile app functionality and performance; and full web-dashboard browser and responsive testing.
API & microservices testing
Third-party integration validation across multiple bank APIs and payment switches, microservice contract testing, API performance under load, and graceful degradation when dependencies fail.
Security, performance & scale
PCI compliance validation, authentication and authorisation, load testing at peak periods, stress testing under extreme load, and network-condition testing — validating a sub-3-second response time.
Client impact
PayCentre has gone on to process over 5 billion daily transactions. Agents now transact with confidence, knowing the platform won't fail them during critical customer moments — and the reliability we helped build has become a competitive advantage in Nigeria's crowded POS market.
